What is a module quiz passing score?
Trakstar Learn allows you to set passing requirements at both the module and quiz level. Understanding how these settings interact helps you determine when a trainee passes or fails a module.
Module Passing Score
A Module Passing Score sets the minimum average score a trainee must achieve across all quizzes in a module.
If a module contains multiple quizzes:
- Trakstar Learn calculates the average of all quiz scores.
- The average becomes the trainee's Module Score.
- If the Module Score meets or exceeds the configured passing score, the trainee passes the module (unless quiz passing scores require otherwise).
You can configure the Module Passing Score from the Manage tab of the module.
Quiz Passing Score
A Quiz Passing Score sets the minimum score required to pass an individual quiz.
Unlike the Module Passing Score, this setting applies only to the specific quiz where it is enabled. If a trainee does not achieve the required score, they fail that quiz.
Passing Score Scenarios
The following examples illustrate how the two settings work together.
Scenario 1: Module Passing Score Only
Enable a Module Passing Score without setting individual quiz passing scores.
Result:
- The trainee passes the module if their average score across all quizzes meets or exceeds the Module Passing Score.
Scenario 2: Quiz Passing Scores Only
Enable Quiz Passing Scores but do not configure a Module Passing Score.
Result:
- Trainees must meet or exceed the passing score for each quiz where a passing score is enabled.
- If a trainee fails any required quiz, they fail the module, regardless of their overall average score.
Require Passing One Specific Quiz
If your module contains multiple quizzes but only one quiz should determine whether trainees pass:
- Enable a Quiz Passing Score only for that specific quiz.
- Leave the Module Passing Score disabled.
- Leave Quiz Passing Scores disabled for all other quizzes.
With this configuration, only the selected quiz determines whether the trainee passes or fails the module.
Scenario 3: No Passing Scores Configured
If neither a Module Passing Score nor any Quiz Passing Scores are configured:
- Trainees pass the module regardless of their quiz scores.
